As a young boy, I was an incredibly high energy kid. It was hard to get me to sit still in school and later I was diagnosed with ADHD and prescribed amphetamines to treat it and keep me focused in school. I spent the next 2 years of middle school and all 4 years of high school being prescribed ADHD medication and taking it every day. I agree that the medicine was effective, my grades improved and my ability to sit still in school.
This did not come without its cost. My appetite was ruined, which for a young boy is a hard thing to contend with, my energy was constantly scaled down and the medication ended up disqualifying my attempts to attend the Naval Academy. I hope with this project to start looking closer into the effects of Amphetamines and ADHD medications on young people and begin promoting people to look for alternative solutions to drugs when dealing with their attention issues.
